Marie-Madeleine Fourcade (1909, Marseille - 1989) was the leader of the French Resistance network "Alliance," after the arrest of its former leader Georges Loustaunau-Lacau, during the occupation of France in the Second World War, In 1945, she created and became president of the Association Amicale Alliance (Alliance Friendly Association. She then took care of 3,000 resistance agents and Marie-Madeleine Fourcade, a French Resistance hero who was once smuggled out of the country in a mailbag to escape the Nazis, died today in a Paris military hospital, friends reported. Marie-Madeleine Fourcade was born on 11 August 1909 in Marseille. Under the code name ‘Hérisson’ (‘Hedgehog’) she had the distinction of being the only female leader of a French Resistance network, ‘Alliance’, later named ‘Noah’s Ark’. Marie-Madeleine Fourcade (11 August 1909, Marseille – 20 July 1989, Paris) was the leader of the French Resistance network "Alliance", under the code name "Hérisson" ("Hedgehog") after the arrest of its former leader, Georges Loustaunau-Lacau (“Navarre”), during the occupation of France in the Second World War. The young French woman headed one of the most important resistance networks during World War II and Marie-Madeleine Fourcade was the only woman to lead a large and complex French resistance network during WWII from 1941 through 1945 and the liberation of France.
